Community Land Trust Emerging in Globeville and

Elyria-Swansea from Collaboration with Community

Resident leaders in Globeville and Elyria-Swansea began researching Community Land Trusts in 2015. Five resident leaders attended Grounded Solutions Network National Conference in Park City, Utah in September 2016. By early 2017, GES Coalition began fundraising to contract Grounded Solutions Network to provide training and technical assistance to build community capacity around Community Land Trusts. In May 2017, a group of twenty resident leaders prioritized community development of GES Community Land Trust (GES CLT) as a way to preserve affordable homes in perpetuity, while also having long-term community oversight and co-administration of community assets. To move this vision forward, GES Coalition selected Brothers Redevelopment, Inc, and the Colorado Community Land Trust as incubation and development partners to form the GES Affordable Housing Collaborative (GES AHC), bringing together community leadership with housing and financial experts to support community vision, and backed by community/organizational capacity to quickly identify and meet diverse and changing neighborhood need.
